2022 Moisture Festival: Opening March 17

Alex Oliva is a circus and movement artist based in Boston, MA. He specializes in aerial straps and Cyr wheel and always seeks to push the boundaries of circus with captivating and innovative movement by combining elements from his gymnastics and dance background. He has performed with companies such as CirqOvation (Syracuse), Caroline Calouche & Co. (Charlotte), House of Yes (NYC), Berber (San Francisco), and Taconhy Entertainment’s “Circus on Ice” (US tour). Alex has also performed internationally at the Western Australian Circus Festival and is in his fourth season as a dancer with contemporary dance group Urbanity Underground (Boston).

His most recent accolades at the 2022 San Diego Circus Festival include winning the DaVinci Award for overall act presentation for Cyr wheel, the Vanguard Award for creativity for straps, and the CircusTalk Spotlight Award for expression, artistic and technical acumen, and audience engagement. Other notable achievements include winning 2nd place in the 2021 Aerialympics National Competition in the All-Star Specialty division and winning the “Best Choreography Award” in the MarDelDance disDance July 2020 Film Festival.

Alex received his circus training under Michael Lanphear (Boston), Victor Fomine, Angelica Bongiovonni, and Eric Deschenes (Montreal). Prior to circus, he received training in contemporary and classical dance for 4 years, and in artistic gymnastics for 5 years.
