From her first open-mic performances at the O.K. Hotel in Seattle, to her performances at Benaroya Hall, J.R.’ Rhode’s belief in the transformative power of music are distilled into songs of quiet intensity that traverse spirituals, folk, blues, jazz, and rock.

J.R. founded the J.R. Rhodes Company in 1996. She says that  “… it’s a small sole proprietorship in which she creates works and collaborates via professional partnerships in various settings.”   We’re so happy to have her back after performing several years with Moisture Festival solo and with collaborators. This year her chosen collaborator is another long time Moisture musician, Jessica Lurie.

Jessica Lurie is a Seattle native who who first gained notice as a member of the Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet, an all-female horn ensemble . She has since, wandered far from home but returns from time to time and we’re so glad that she chooses our annual springtime event to be among those homecoming events. Jessica is a composer, performance artist and woodwind player.
