Community Guidelines & Complaint Reporting

Moisture Festival Community Guidelines

Moisture Festival aims to foster a culture of inclusion and dignity for all. All community members should always be treated with courtesy and respect. Moisture Festival is committed to providing a work environment that is safe and free from harassment, bullying, and any acts of violence or threats of violence in any form and discrimination in all forms. Moisture Festival will not tolerate any type of harassment of or violence towards its personnel, Board of Trustees, volunteers, vendors/business partners, artists or audience members. This includes any form of electronic communication.

Harassment

As used in these guidelines, the term “harassment” includes sexual harassment as well as harassment based on any protected classification such as a person’s race, color, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, size, religion, ethnic heritage, disability, age and/or appearance. Any behavior that fosters a hostile work environment is prohibited.  It is not considered harassment, discrimination, or other behavioral misconduct of any sort for Moisture Festival to enforce job performance and standards of conduct in a consistent manner.

Any action may be considered harassing if it:

    1. Creates a hostile, intimidating or offensive work environment;
    2. Unreasonably interferes with an employee’s or volunteer’s work performance; or
    3. Adversely impacts an individual’s employment opportunities.

The Global Project against Hate and Extremism provides a useful database of extremist symbols that serves as our reference point with regard to clothing, accessories, or other visual symbols that could create an intimidating environment.

An employee, volunteer, or artist’s conduct will be considered unwelcome and in violation of this policy when another employee, volunteer or client expresses their objection.

Bullying

Bullying goes beyond the single episode of teasing or fighting. Bullying is a pattern of behavior in which the bully attempts to intimidate other(s). Examples of bullying behavior range from stereotyping, teasing, to extortion, to physical assault. This includes any form of electronic communication.

Workplace Violence
Workplace and work environment violence is defined as performing actions or using words that endanger or harm anyone in the Moisture Festival community or result in a member of that community having a reasonable belief that they are in danger. Any conduct which makes an individual feel endangered is in violation of this policy. Firearms, weapons, and other dangerous or hazardous devices or substances are prohibited from Moisture Festival’s premises and performance venues without proper authorization.

To Report Community Guidelines Violations:

Moisture Festival urges any artist who believes that they have been treated in violation of our Community Guidelines to first consider telling the offending party that their conduct or behavior is inappropriate.

However, if an employee or volunteer is not comfortable confronting the offending party, they should immediately report the matter to a) the Artistic Director (Harry Levine) or b) the Executive Director (Victoria Watts). If this does not feel appropriate, or those parties are involved, reports can be made to the Board Vice President (Jamie Marshall). Moisture Festival’s priority is to immediately ensure the safety of performers. Reporting disputes or differences with any member of the Moisture Festival community  should be done before the situation escalates.

In certain circumstances, you may wish to submit your complaint anonymously. You may do so using our Anonymous Feedback & Complaint Form. Please keep in mind that matters reported anonymously may be more difficult to resolve, so be sure to provide as much information as possible when using the form.

Investigation Procedure:
All reports of guideline violations will be quickly and discreetly investigated. No performer who makes a good faith allegation will be subject to retaliation.

The investigation will generally consist of discussions and fact finding with witnesses to the event/conduct, including the complainant and the alleged wrongdoer. To the extent possible, confidentiality of the person reporting, of any witnesses and the alleged wrongdoer, will be protected against unnecessary disclosure. When the investigation is completed, the complainant and the alleged wrongdoer will be informed of the outcome of the review.

Moisture Festival will take prompt disciplinary action in response to policy violations. Disciplinary action may include termination of employment or of the relationship with the contractor,  volunteer, or artist.

If you have questions about this policy, contact the Executive Director for additional information.
