Dr. Alex Kelly is a San Francisco based cellist, composer, and educator. He performs with a large array of ensembles and genres, ranging from symphony orchestras, new music ensembles, string quartets, rock bands, jazz combos, and world music ensembles. He also composes music for a variety of ensembles, including symphony orchestras, modern dance companies, theater companies, and circus troupes. He also writes and records music for film and video games, has premiered 1000+ new works, and has produced string parts in 1000+ recording sessions.
Alex is the author of the cello technique book “The Seven Points” which teaches fingerboard-mapping techniques. His live-looping solo show has been seen in a variety of venues ranging from Davies Symphony Concert Hall to Yosemite mountaintops.
Alex teaches at the College of Marin, and has an average of twenty private students that either study cello, piano, composition, or electronic music.
In attempt at avoiding a name dropping paragraph, you should know that Alex has performed with megastars on big stages and well as home-growns in hole-in-the-walls.
He continues to work in the performing arts, as well as anything that involves music 🙂
