Rose Nisker comes to us this year from the San Francisco Bay Area. A remarkable aerialist with extensive dance training, Rose's love of movement has taken her around the world and into the air. She made her debut dance performance with award-winning troupe Gamelan Sekar Jaya at the Bali Arts Festival in Indonesia at the age of 8, and hasn't looked back. From stomping out spicy rhythms with Spanish gypsies in the caves of Granada to performing Indian classical dance at temple ceremonies in India, Rose has danced on the world's most renowned stages and on the most obscure jungle floors. In 2005, Rose returned home to Berkeley and began intensive training on aerial rope and fabric. It was a natural fit, and soon Rose was using her dance background to help choreograph aerial routines for Trapeze Artsí youth troupe, Les Aerielles. Rose has performed aerial acts at events across the Bay Area including art openings at the De Young Museum and special engagements at numerous nightclubs. Last year, she premiered her original piece combining the earthy drama of Flamenco dance with the ethereal grace of aerial tissue at the Crucible in Oakland and was asked back for numerous repeat performances. Now she will bring her beauty and experience to our festival and we are delighted to have her.
